This week, many will gather around the dinner table to indulge in decadent food, joyful conversations, and a time of togetherness.
Life can be rough, but the holidays allow us the opportunity to slow down and hit the pause button, even just for a moment. Despite the trials and tribulations that might return once the day is over, many of us are gifted with a reprieve from the everyday grind. In that brief moment, life is good.
These are the moments we all take for granted.
Thanksgiving is a time to spend with loved ones. The hardships we face can weigh us down, but for many, being surrounded by the people who love and care about us makes life’s worries melt away. It opens us up to experience and explore feelings of thankfulness and gratitude.
We all have much to be thankful for, players and staff alike.
Rookie ACL Pro Logan Dupler is most thankful for the people he has met while traveling to play cornhole. Hailing from Manheim, Pennsylvania, this 16-year-old has attended all but one event this season, and even took home the Pro & Elite Doubles crown with Levi Haddock from the Hamilton Open.
Steve Schroeder has been in the cornhole game for a hot minute. Both an ACL Pro and truck driver for the American Cornhole League, he is most thankful for his family and his good health.
“As my family ages, I am definitely thankful for every day we get to see each other,” he shared. “I'm thankful for the incredibly good health that I have been blessed with for the majority of my life. I personally don't know why I've been so blessed with more than I deserve, but I am definitely thankful for it all.”
While cornhole players typically dominate the spotlight, ACL directors are the unsung heroes working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. Mike Napier of Delaware Cornhole has been a Regional Director for many years and is most thankful for his ability to make other people happy through his work with the ACL. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to provide so many people with joy on a daily basis, whether intentionally or unintentionally.”
In a sense, we strive for the American Cornhole League to act as a huge Thanksgiving table. People gather round from near and far, bonded by a shared love and commonality. We come from all walks of life and each person brings something unique to the table.
Families are full of quirks, differing personalities, and distinctive life experiences. Our cornhole family is no different. However, despite our dissimilarities, we come together often to indulge in the things we love and form a community like no other.
This Thanksgiving, whether you are visiting loved ones or hosting them at your home, we pause to recognize the importance of togetherness and gratitude. As you gather together this holiday season, we encourage you to take a step back, breathe it all in, and relish each moment. Take this season of thankfulness and carry it with you even after the day is done.
Happy Thanksgiving from the American Cornhole League! We are so thankful for the incredible players, staff, and fans who have moulded the league into what it is today.
